Queer Metal Club was developed by two members at Blackhorse Workshop, Steph Linn & The Hammer, as a regular safe space run for and by queer creatives who are curious about metal. Launched in June 2026 with sold out sessions, Queer Metal Club is now a monthly event at Blackhorse Workshop.

 

This two session club is an introduction to metalworking techniques where participants learn how to weld, bend, fold, hammer, cut, and so much more. A safe, social, and friendly environment where no experience is required and all skill levels are welcome. This club is open to everyone who aligns with the ethos of Queer Metal Club, with priority given to those who identify as LGBTQ+.

 

This project is licenced under a creative commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike licence, which encourages replication in other not for profit spaces, so long as the original creators are credited. This was important to us as both Blackhorse Workshop and Queer Metal Club want to see more safe spaces like this in the creative fabrication sectors.

Queer Metal Club was inspired by another project hosted at Blackhorse Workshop- Feminist Welding Club. Feminist Welding Club was created by artist and designer Anna Zimmermann to offer a supported welding session in a welcoming environment to those who often face barriers in male dominated crafts like welding. These sessions are open to everyone who aligns with the ethos of the Feminist Welding Club, with priority given to those who identify as women, transgender, non-binary, and genderqueer.
